Joseph Debro Oakland Post 10-29-1995 The Raiders Deal: A Case Study In `Giving Away The Store'. Historically, the City of Oakland was ruled exclusively by white men up until a few decades ago. Presently, the City of Oakland and Alameda County are governed by a group of people who reflect the ethnic diversity of the population of Oakland. For example, African-Americans are 46% of the population. However, while African-Americans and other minorities have some political clout in Oakland, they still don't have economic clout. This lack of economic clout was recently dramatized by the Raiders deal. Not only did our political leaders "give away the store" to Al Davis to get the Raiders back, but
